Reclaiming your brain<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

My latest read and influence for finding calm, peace and happiness in my life is a book called
Brain Wash Detox Your Mind <\/a>for Clearer Thinking, Deeper Relationships, and Lasting Happiness, which is co-authored by best-selling authors David Perlmutter, MD and Austin Perlmutter, MD.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s all about Taking Control of Your Brain and your life.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

\u2018\u2019Contemporary life provides us with infinite opportunities. We can eat whatever we want, whenever we want. We can immerse ourselves in the vast, enticing world of digital media. But living in this 24\/7 hyper-reality comes at a steep cost: left unchecked, it poses serious risks to our physical and mental health, relationships, and even the ability to control our thoughts.\u2019\u2019<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Brain Wash<\/em> reveals how our day-to-day decisions are deeply influenced and actively manipulated by the modern digital world. Recent studies<\/a> show that excessive smartphone use is associated with problems of mental health and impaired psychological well-being.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When you detach and have controlled social media time you are \u2018more\u2019 happier when exploring and out in the real world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lesson 2: Exercise if you want to get smarter.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Now that you know how bad following social norms is, you\u2019re probably wanting to know how to break free of their grip. One of the best places to start is with exercise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Not getting enough physical activity can lead to heart disease\u2014even for people who have no other risk factors. It can also increase the likelihood of developing other heart disease risk factors, including obesity, high blood pressure, high blood cholesterol, and type 2 diabetes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When you don\u2019t work out enough your mind becomes foggy, and your mood deteriorates. If you put in the recommended 30 minutes of exercise a day, you provide yourself with a massive boost to your brainpower.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For one, it stimulates the prefrontal cortex. This is the part of your brain that takes care of executive functions like planning and problem-solving. In other words, if you want to be smarter, all you need to do is hit the gym or go for a run!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lesson 3: The Brain Wash program\u2019s ten steps will set you on the path to long-term happiness.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

  1. Begin a\u00a0digital detox<\/strong>\u00a0by\u00a0eliminating non-essential technology. Delete apps that waste your time.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Utilize the power of\u00a0gratitude and empathy<\/strong>\u00a0by reflecting on the good and journaling about what you\u2019re thankful for.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Revitalize your relationship with\u00a0nature<\/strong>. Go for a walk, try hiking, or work outside.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. Examine and improve your\u00a0diet<\/strong>. Identify what you currently eat, and plan ways to do better by removing processed foods and finding new recipes.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  5. Make a plan for better\u00a0sleep<\/strong>. Begin by getting your devices out of the bedroom and committing to an earlier bedtime.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  6. Exercise<\/strong>\u00a0more by starting small with something like a quick walk. Consider how you\u2019ll form a habit of physical activity.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  7. Calm your mind with\u00a0meditation<\/strong>.<\/a> Try deep breathing exercises for just 12 minutes.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  8. Improve your\u00a0social connections<\/strong>\u00a0by calling a sibling or friend, inviting someone to lunch, or doing volunteer work.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  9. Evaluate<\/strong>\u00a0how the previous eight days have gone. Identify what went well and what you didn\u2019t like as much.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  10. Make a plan to make these changes stick.<\/strong>\u00a0Reflect on how much better these efforts made you feel and commit to yourself to them for a happier future!<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n
