Boundaries are a part of self-care. They are healthy, normal, and necessary.” -Doreen Virtue

Setting boundaries is essential if we want to be both physically & emotionally healthy.

Creating healthy boundaries is empowering. By recognizing the need to set and enforce limits, protect your self-esteem, maintain self-respect, and enjoy healthy relationships. Unhealthy boundaries cause emotional pain that can lead to dependency, depression, anxiety, and even stress-induced physical illness. A lack of boundaries is like leaving the door to your home unlocked: anyone, including unwelcome guests, can enter at will. On the other hand, having too rigid boundaries can lead to isolation, like living in a locked-up castle- No one can get in, and you can’t get out.

Examples of Personal Boundaries

✅ Your Right to Privacy.
✅The Ability to Change Your Mind.
✅Your Right to Your Own Time.
✅The Need to Handle Negative Energy.
✅The Freedom to Express Sexual Boundaries.
✅The Freedom to Express Spiritual Boundaries.
✅The Right to Remain True to Your Principles.

Ways to set boundaries
1. Communicate what you will and will not tolerate.
2. Listen to your gut instinct.
3. Think about the impact of your actions.
4. Do things because they make you feel good.
5. Offer an alternative.
6. Be direct and firm with your answer.

Don’t feel guilty about setting boundaries. They’re essentially a form of self-care, and we actively look to incorporate other elements of this into our lives daily — from eating a balanced diet to exercising. This is no different!

Constructive criticism is not all bad; it depends on how you take it. Constructive criticism offers a balance of both positive and negative responses. 😵‍💫 A perfectionist is defined as a person who refuses to accept any standard short of perfection. Some might also add that they are delusional, generally crazy, and stresses out everyone else around them wanting everything to be perfect all the time. What’s wrong with that? ⁠

💭 Perfectionists, by definition, strive for the best, trying to ace exams, be meticulous at their jobs, and raise perfect children. So, one might assume this drive for the ideal translates over to their health as well, with perfectionist being models for physical and mental well-being.⁠
Coaching perfectionists is about 'helping them learn to differentiate between intention, strategy and outcome. It’s not necessarily about changing their intention and desired outcome; it is about learning to help them vary their strategies.⁠

⭐️ Often when we find ourselves with an empty hour, we spend that time doing chores or attending to our relationships or others. How can you connect with yourself and find your spiritual center?⁠

💛 Time for yourself is time away from your To Do list, your list of responsibilities and commitments. It's time away from the things you HAVE to do each day that sap not only your time, but your physical and mental energy. These things will usually still be there even if we have 5 minutes or a weekend to ourselves. ⁠
Time to yourself is time you spend alone. You might spend it doing something for yourself, or working, or anything else. Time for yourself is time you spend doing something that benefits yourself and only yourself. It doesn’t need to be much or expensive, simple activities that bring you joy an peace help you to nourish and replenish to be able to care for others. ⁠
By taking time for yourself, you're allowing your body physical rest and giving your mind time to process whatever is going on in your life. ⁠

🖤 The “shadow self” is the parts of ourselves that have been pushed down to the unconscious — the parts that we’re insecure about, ashamed of, or frustrated with and therefore repress.⁠

The concept of the shadow self is based on the notion that we figuratively bury those pieces of personality that we fear would not be welcomed, accepted, or loved by others; therefore, we keep them in the “shadows.” In short, our shadow selves are the versions of ourselves that we do not show society.⁠
